Women's Equality Day August 26

At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as "Women's Equality Day".

The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world's first women's rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York.

The observance of Women's Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women's continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women's Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, or other activities.

We're Back

Womyn Making Waves has never been gone, but I have let the blog slide for months. The show is alive and well, but the collective has been collectively very busy.

Womyn Making Waves is one of the longest running shows on the station and we have been promoting women's music and women's issues for over two decades. As a collective we have a variety of different sounds every Sunday, because not all women are the same. If you have suggestions or requests, you can email us at wmwweft@gmail.com or call us during the show @ 359-9338 (fly-weft). Send us your public service announcements and other information for the community. Don't forget, the weft community is web wide, you can listen to us @ http://weft.org.

Check out the calendar to see which one of the collective is going to be on air for any particular Sunday.

If you want to help out don't forget that we are listener supported and volunteer operated.

Keep making waves!!!!!!!
